It was the final match for this season for the team and they are facing Siglap Secondary School today. A victory for the opponents will see them qualify for the semi-finals on Wednesday at Choa Chu Kang Stadium and they will definitely be aiming for that. For the team, it is the final chance to salvage something from the second round, having played 3 games without a win.

National Inter-School Floorball Championships 2010 (‘C’ Division)
Catholic High School vs Siglap Secondary School
Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall
2-4 (1-0, 2-2, 1-0)

The team set out in the first period and did well to keep Siglap Secondary School at bay. They only managed to score a goal midway through the period when the forward found some space in the goal area.

The players stepped up in the second period, but Siglap extended their lead with an opportunistic long shot which eluded Eugene. Joshua equalised for the team in the 4th and 6th minute, but Siglap found their way ahead again with a minute left and the period ended the same as how it started, a one-goal margin for Siglap Secondary School.

The final period was hard fought, with both teams coming close to scoring many times. The opponents were playing with confidence and they eventually scored that much needed goal with 5 minutes left to end the game.

It was a long season for the team and one that the players need to reflect upon deeply. Everyone has a long and hard road ahead of them if they wish to continue to do well and anything less than 100% effort would not suffice. Let this be a experience to bring along for the next season!

The team went into the game today wanting to perform better than they did in their previous meetings against Victoria School. The coach outlined the game plan to restrict the opponent from passing into the goal area and the players were clear about their individual roles.

The first period was a tight one, with the Victorians trying to get into the game but found themselves hampered by the tenacious defence from the team. However, they managed to nick in an early goal and scored another one at the start and end of the period respectively. The team came close on several occasions but their goalkeeper was equal to the task.

National Inter-School Floorball Championships 2010 (‘C’ Division)
Victoria School vs Catholic High School
Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall
10-0 (2-0, 5-0, 3-0)

The second period saw Jed took his position between the posts and with Victoria Schools getting into their stride, the defenders found it hard to stop their shots and ended up a further 5 goals behind.

In the final period, the players were reminded to stick to their tactics and they almost scored if not for the heroics of the goalkeeper again. Unfortunately, the opponents were much better and they added another 3 goals to their tally to finish the game.

It was a relatively improved performance and there were many things to learn from this match. It would be a valuable experience for the players and hopefully they will train hard and get better after this.

The team faces against Coral Secondary School today in a match which they need to get a result from in order to continue in the tournament. The players were briefed by the coach on the game strategy and nothing less than full concentration and effort would suffice. After some positive performances in their previous match, the players were encouraged and seemed to be determined to play well. Coral Secondary School will also need this win to keep their championship hopes alive and will not be holding back any punches today.

It did not take long for the first goal to be scored, unfortunately against the team as the defenders gave the opponents too much space to take the shot. The same player doubled the score in the 10th minute to extend the lead.

National Inter-School Floorball Championships 2010 (‘C’ Division)
Coral Secondary School vs Catholic High School
Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall
7-3 (2-0, 2-1, 3-2)

In the second period, Eugene deflected the ball into his own goal and Coral Secondary School got a 4-goal cushion as the clock ran down. Jiali pulled one back for the team with a well taken long shot from the half court which the goalkeeper missed completely.

The team began to press much harder in the final period but not after the opponents scored in the 3rd minute. Warren scored a goal after dribbling through the defenders and then cut the ball back to Amos who was unmarked to make it 5-3. As we continued to press, gaps opened up in the defence and the opponents took the opportunity to put 2 goals in the last 20 seconds to wrap up the game.

It was not as easy game with the opponents playing well and stepping up when it mattered. The team tried hard but were unable to better themselves today.

The National Inter-School Floorball Championships resumes after the long break with the team facing Raffles Institution in their first game. The players have had time to improve on their skills over the past month and were ready to execute the game plan against their opponents. Every team has stepped up their play and it is proving to be a difficult stage of the tournament where all teams are capable of taking something away from the matches. No teams can be underestimated.

The team started off quite well, containing the waves of attacks from their opponents until midway through the period before conceding an unfortunate goal. Raffles Institution doubled their scoreline a minute later and added a third a minute from time.

National Inter-School Floorball Championships 2010 (‘C’ Division)
Catholic High School vs Raffles Institution
Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall
2-7 (0-3, 2-2, 0-2)

After some minor adjustments to the tactics, the boys began to have more chances to attack. An interception and return pass from Warren after drawing 2 defenders with him put Jie Ying clear and he made no mistake with his shot into the corner. Another opportunistic free hit saw Jie Ying took a clear shot at goal which the Raffles Institution defender could do nothing about other than deflecting it into his goal. However, the opponents managed to score 2 goals as well to maintain their 3-goal margin.

The final period was a tense affair as both sides were cautious not to commit too many mistakes. It was level until the 10th minute when Raffles broke through and Jed had no chance with the shot. The game began to open up a lot more and the final goal was scored against the team before the time ran out.

It was a good game by our expectations with the players fighting hard to hold their opponents. The players lost to a better team and no favours can be expected in this highly competitive competition.

After a series of 3 losses, the team were to face Hurricanes, consisting of NTU alumni players. It was a game that the team had a good chance of achieving a positive result. Everyone was geared up for the match and the players did not disappoint.

The boys played extremely well to take the game to Hurricanes and came away with their first victory of the season. However, they will have to continue this fine form when they face NUS Nemesis for another win the following day.

The Singapore Schools Boys team finished the season with 2 wins, 1 draw and 7 losses to obtain a total of 7 points with a slightly superior goal difference to finish in 10th position. They were unlucky not to be able to win their final game, which would have put them in the 9th position. Nevertheless, the team managed to achieve their Division 1 status, meeting the objective that was set before the season.

It was an enjoyable season with the players and hopefully, this experience will put them in good stead for their future games!

Team CH has done very well this season and as with the previous year, this inaugural awards will be decided by the mighty coach himself. All objections raised will not be entertained!

Golden Stick

Crenshawn Lim (11 goals)

Darrell Er (10 goals)

Darius Sie (7 goals)

Jarryl Chan (7 goals)

Joshua Lee (6 goals)

Crenshawn Lim edged out Darrell Er with a last gasp goal in the final game to take the top scorer award!

Golden Blade

Crenshawn Lim (5 assists)

Darius Sie (4 assists)

Joshua Lee (4 assists)

Ryan Cheng (4 assists)

Chee Keong (4 assists)

Crenshawn Lim provided the killer pass to create 5 goals to take home the Golden Blade award!

Golden Gloves

Lander Chin

Eugene Lee

Both goalkeepers were outstanding throughout the league, sharing the load equally between them and contributing to our record defence this year! Therefore, both players will share the honours in this category.

Most Commited Player

Darrell Er

Joshua Lee

Jarryl Chan

Ryan Cheng

Lander Chin

Crenshawn Lim

These players, in no order of merit, demonstrated the passion that they have for the game and to the team.

Most Improved Junior

Jarryl Chan

Having only picked up the game a year ago, he has improved in leaps and bounds and established himself as a key member of the team. Jarryl thoroughly deserves this award and the coach hopes he will keep his feet on the ground and continue to improve further.

Most Improved Senior

Eugene Lee

Eugene Lee can be almost unbeatable when at his best, although he can be prone to lapses in concentration at times. While not exactly the youngest in the team, he has stepped up to become a key member of the team in his first season and thus deserves this award.

Most Valuable Defender

Joshua Lee

Joshua is not only the anchor man in defence, his dribbles and forays in attack are extremely effective.

Most Valuable Centre

Darius Sie

It is hard to tell that Darius has only played floorball for 4 years. His vision and technique were exceptional and the players in his line benefited from his dribbles and passes for a healthy return of goals.

Most Valuable Forward

Darrell Er

Darrell not only has a powerful and accurate shot, he possessed the determination and drive to win the ball back and create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Most Valuable Player

Darrell Er

There were several players in consideration for this award, but Darrell Er would be the choice as he has not only contributed in terms of statistics, but in terms of leadership as well. The players look up to him for inspiration and he shows it with his hard running and constant pressure on his opponents in every game. Keep up the fantastic work!

As the season comes to an end, the coach would like to congratulate the team for doing well in the league. The alumni players also contributed immensely to the team and the coach hopes that more players will join the team over the years and bring up the standard of the team as time goes by. All the best for your future competitions!

After almost two months, the team finally will be playing their last game of the season. It has been a rewarding competition and the players were looking forward to enjoying this match. Yokohama has been in scintillating form and overran almost all their opponents in the league, which was no surprise as they have several talented national players among their ranks. The players from Team CH would definitely gain a lot of insight playing against them. It was not long before the game began following a short brief from the coach.

Yokohama did not take long to impose themselves in the game. They were 3 goals up before Ryan directed a clearance into his own goal. They scored 2 more goals until Jia Wei, who missed a couple of good chances, put one in for Team CH. Ryan made up for his error earlier with a direct shot from a free hit just inside the opponent’s half which crept into the goal, leaving the goalkeeper rooted at the sudden shot. The period ended 6-2 in Yokohama’s favour.

Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall
9-7 (6-2, 2-1, 1-4)

Yokohama pulled ahead with another goal in the second period while Jia Wei scored his second of the game. Mid-way through the period, many Yokohama players had to leave for another competition in Malaysia, leaving only 7 players to play the remainder of the game. They played well and were 8-3 ahead at the end of the period.

The final period saw Team CH going all out, seeing their opponents weakened by the departure of their star players and fatigued with only an additional player to rotate. Team CH was awarded a free hit in front of the goal and Darrell laid off the pass to Su Kiat who wasted no time in slamming the ball into the roof of the goal. Darrell scored one into the top near corner of the goal and Chee Keong made it 8-6 shortly after. Just when the team was looking good for a comeback, Jarryl made a rare mistake passing to the opponent who rounded Lander to score their 9th goal. With 4 seconds left of the match, Crenshawn then won the face off and beat 2 defenders before shooting past the goalkeeper right at the death of the period to end the game 9-7.

It was a great game no doubt, playing against several national players at the start, and seizing the chance for a comeback towards the end. Team CH had their chances and it might have been a different outcome if the players managed to score. Nevertheless, it was a fruitful season where the players improved considerably over the 12 games. The coach was proud of their performances and hoped that the players will take their experiences into their future games.

Team CH were due to face off with Victorian today on a late Sunday night. The players were up against a very good team with technically sound players who can pass the ball well. Nevertheless, the coach has a simple plan in mind for the game and the players rose to the occasion and played according to plan. With some luck, the result might have shifted in our favour.

Singapore Floorball League Division 4
Team CH vs Victorian
Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall
5-7 (0-2, 4-4, 1-1)

The first period started off with some disciplined defending from Team CH and restricted Victorian to only several long shots and half chances. The players were able to match them and had a couple of chances of their own on the counter attack. In fact, the shot ratio was 3-4, which reflected a very even period. However, Victorian got their lucky break when one of their long shots was unwittingly deflected past Lander in the 17th minute. Even more so when their efforts paid off as the ball was kicked into the goal by a Team CH defender. Victorian went into the break with a 0-2 lead.

The players were briefed on the game plan again and reminded to stick to the plan and be patient to win the ball back. The lack of players also meant that they needed to conserve their energy to last the full game. Victorian scored again with a shot that squeezed past a blind spot of the goal in the 5th minute.

Team CH finally got their well deserved goal 2 minutes later form Jia Wei with a great shot from the right into the top far corner. Joshua made it 2-3 before Su Kiat scored with a similar shot to draw level. Unfortunately, Victorian took the lead again with another fortuitous goal but the players did well and equalised again through Su Kiat. Team CH was unable to hold on as they forced their way to attack and left gaps behind which Victorian took advantage of to pull ahead with another 2 goals.

The third period was a highly intense one as Victorian once again scored 2 minutes into the period. Jarryl pull one back with 5 minutes to go and the team reverted to their usual playing style which was unable to yield any further goals unfortunately.

The coach was satisfied with the disciplined game the players put in, but the opponents had the better share of luck today. The team was able to match their opponents and everyone played with great spirit on court, showing the determination to keep pushing on even when everyone was tired. This attitude will put the players in good stead for their development and they must never lose this drive of theirs.

The team faces Hillgrove Secondary School for their final group game. Having only lost one game and a superior goal difference, the result of this game is of minimal consequence to qualification as the opponents would only be on par at 6 points even if they won.

National Inter-School Floorball Championships 2010 (‘C’ Division)
Catholic High School vs Hillgrove Secondary School
Bukit Merah Secondary School
6-7 (2-2, 2-4, 2-1)

The players were given clear instructions prior to the game but the opponents took a 2-0 lead halfway through the game, taking advantage of the slack marking and free hit defending. The team managed to draw level with a long shot from Jiali and a tap in from Yu Ren to end the period at 2 a piece.

The defensive display in the second period was no better as the team found themselves behind after 30 seconds. The team managed to equalise courtesy of an own goal but Hillgrove persisted and led in the 5th minute. Joshua scored in the 3rd minute to bring the score to 4-4 but Hillgrove restored their 2-goal margin in the last 3 minutes.

The coach was furious with his charges as they could not manage to string up passes and control the ball well. The marking was horrendous and every player was making mistakes right down to the goalkeepers. The players to their credit played much better in the final period, with goals from Jie Ying and Yong Li, but they failed to hold on as they conceded a last minute goal after Hillgrove was awarded another free hit.

Although the team qualified for the second round, it was an extremely poor performance from the team defensively. The players must reflect on their efforts and do better in the next stage.
