Yokohama Juniors vs Team CH

2 May 2010 6 Comments

After almost two months, the team finally will be playing their last game of the season. It has been a rewarding competition and the players were looking forward to enjoying this match. Yokohama has been in scintillating form and overran almost all their opponents in the league, which was no surprise as they have several talented national players among their ranks. The players from Team CH would definitely gain a lot of insight playing against them. It was not long before the game began following a short brief from the coach.

Yokohama did not take long to impose themselves in the game. They were 3 goals up before Ryan directed a clearance into his own goal. They scored 2 more goals until Jia Wei, who missed a couple of good chances, put one in for Team CH. Ryan made up for his error earlier with a direct shot from a free hit just inside the opponent’s half which crept into the goal, leaving the goalkeeper rooted at the sudden shot. The period ended 6-2 in Yokohama’s favour.

Yokohama pulled ahead with another goal in the second period while Jia Wei scored his second of the game. Mid-way through the period, many Yokohama players had to leave for another competition in Malaysia, leaving only 7 players to play the remainder of the game. They played well and were 8-3 ahead at the end of the period.

The final period saw Team CH going all out, seeing their opponents weakened by the departure of their star players and fatigued with only an additional player to rotate. Team CH was awarded a free hit in front of the goal and Darrell laid off the pass to Su Kiat who wasted no time in slamming the ball into the roof of the goal. Darrell scored one into the top near corner of the goal and Chee Keong made it 8-6 shortly after. Just when the team was looking good for a comeback, Jarryl made a rare mistake passing to the opponent who rounded Lander to score their 9th goal. With 4 seconds left of the match, Crenshawn then won the face off and beat 2 defenders before shooting past the goalkeeper right at the death of the period to end the game 9-7.

It was a great game no doubt, playing against several national players at the start, and seizing the chance for a comeback towards the end. Team CH had their chances and it might have been a different outcome if the players managed to score. Nevertheless, it was a fruitful season where the players improved considerably over the 12 games. The coach was proud of their performances and hoped that the players will take their experiences into their future games.
