NSS vs CHS

23 March 2010 One Comment

The ‘C’ Division boys played their first match of the season today at Coral Secondary School. They are facing Northland Secondary School in this important game which could probably have a huge bearing on our qualification chances for the National Floorball Championships. The finalized team was announced a week ago and the players were raring to go and make good the time spent in trainings. However, the result was not meant to be as they suffered their first loss against their opponents.

The period began with both teams going out for the goal. The players from Catholic High School were disciplined in their defence but on a couple of occasions, the Northland players managed to break through to shoot. Eugene did well to keep the shots out when it mattered.

Northland Secondary School vs Catholic High School
Coral Secondary School
6-3 (0-0, 1-2, 5-1)

It was no surprise that the period ended goalless, with Northland having the upper hand with more shots on our goal.

The second period carried on from where both teams left off with Jie Ying and Joshua spearheading attacks from Catholic High School. During one of the attacks from Northland, Wan Terng was judged to have stepped inside the goal area and a penalty was awarded. Fortunately, Eugene managed to block the tame shot with his legs to keep the game tied 0-0. However, there was no stopping Northland when their forward scored after being left unmarked at the far post in the 12th minute.

Jie Ying put the team back in the game with 2 goals, one coming from a through ball to Joshua who after missing his first attempt, made the pass to Jie Ying to put the ball into the gaping goal. His other goal came right at the end of the period for the team to take the lead.

The final period saw Northland stepping up the pressure and it was sheer hard work that they manage to score the equaliser shortly after the start of the period. Jie Ying came to the rescue again with a well taken slap shot off a free hit which went right into the top near corner of the goal, leaving the Northland players stunned.

We were unable to maintain our lead, as the second half of the period marked the start of our horrendous defending which saw Northland put in 4 goals to put the match beyond our reach. It was an extremely poor performance especially after the coach had specifically instructed the team to put greater emphasis on marking the opponents. No wonder the coach was furious at his charges for losing the game in such manner.

The team will definitely have to work harder to maintain their court discipline if they wish to move on in the tournament.
