CHS vs SS
Siglap Secondary School arrived at Catholic High School for a second friendly game since the December holidays. With the Secondary 1 players having trained for several weeks, it was a good opportunity to expose them to a competitive game and if possible, play some part in the game.
The opponents played very well in the first period, pressuring the players and shooting well at goal. They eventually managed to score 3 goals while we were unable to breach their tight defence. The passing among the players were poor and they did not show enough determination to win the ball back after possession was lost.
‘C’ Division Friendly
Catholic High School vs Siglap Secondary School
CHS Indoor Sports Hall
8-5 (0-3, 1-0, 3-1, 4-1)
As a result, the coach was unhappy and reminded everyone to show that they deserved to be playing and gave them another chance to prove their worth in the next period. There was a marked improvement in the play, but the goal was scored by Warren off a rebound in front of the goal. The team play up was almost non-existent and it was to be a point in the coach’s briefing at the end of the period.
Finally in the third period, Shengyen made a good pass to Warren to score his second goal. Jiali broke through the defence to score with a long shot and James made full use of his time on court to score via a simple double pass from Jieying. However, poor positioning by Jed allowed the opponent to squeeze a shot in at the near post from an acute angle for the equaliser. The Secondary 1 players got a chance to play and they did well without conceding any goals and managed to threaten the opposite goal at times.
There was time for a final period and Amos scored from a free hit 4 minutes into the 4th period. Jiali added 2 more from similar long shots and Jieying scored when his shot beat the goalkeeper at the bottom post. The opponents could only managed a single goal with their efforts.
Although the final scoreline of 8-5 was flattering for us, the game was level at the end of the third period. The players must played like they did in the 4th period right from the start or we will always find ourselves chasing the game and against better teams, it will be even more difficult once the opponents have the lead. The new players would have gained much from this match and with more tactical training, they will definitely do better in time to come.

I’m the ref!!! The super lousy one thou… Hehe, good game ‘C’ div, jia you!
Ya Lar.
That guy dive and you say I foul him.
He fell down before i push him! WTH!
whose side were u on anyway???
I don’t understand all these unhappiness over the umpiring.
Umpires are supposed to be neutral and make their decisions over what they see. No one is perfect and unless you can find a world class referee to umpire your friendly match, let us all play to the referee’s whistle.
This is going to be the way even during the competitions as your seniors can testify. The players’ job is to play according to plan and react accordingly to the things within our control. Everything else should be left to the captain or coach.
If you do not want the referee to lose the game for you, then make sure you as the players win the game convincingly. We cannot always depend on outsiders for any help whatsoever.
Last note, everyone needs the experience to improve whether as player or referee so let’s not put each other down for what is a learning process for everyone.
