TWS vs CHS

26 January 2010 7 Comments

The second game of the tournament was against Teck Whye Secondary School. This will be a game many of the players have at the back of their minds, given that we lost narrowly during a friendly match with them. However, they also knew that the friendly match can only be an indicator of how the opponents will play. The result will not figure in today’s encounter. It was a surprise that the boys were slow off the starting block and put themselves under unnecessary pressure right from the first whistle.

Crenshawn got the team ahead with a simple shot following a cut back by Darrell behind the goal, but our opponents have other ideas as an opposing forward equalised with a backhand shot not long after the restart. In the 10th minute, they took the lead with a well taken free hit which unfortunately eluded Han Wei.

Teck Whye Secondary School vs Catholic High School
BSS Indoor Sports Hall
6-4 (2-1, 1-1, 3-2)

Teck Whye started the period strongly and despite holding their attacks at bay, they eventually scored with 4 minutes to go. Darrell pulled one back 2 minutes later after Joshua pressured hard to win the ball for a simple pass to the far post.

The third period proved to be a disastrous one as the opponents scored 3 goals in succession to extend their lead to 6-2. It was a terrible defensive display from the first line as they never looked to settle into the game. Ryan hit the back of the net with a great volley and Joshua put his shot beyond the goalkeeper with a well-placed backhanded shot. Unfortunately, they were the only scorers as the players tried to come back from behind. However, it was not meant to be as the final whistle came sooner than later.

The performances of the players were much to be desired today and the coach was let down by several of his players. The fortunate thing is that we have 3 more matches and we still have a fighting chance to qualify for the next round. There is definitely no room for egos in the team, and if any player felt that the team is not good enough for him, he does not deserve to play.
