The team was up against Ole Locomotive for the third match of the season. As it turned out, the opposing team was made up of players from Yishun Junior College. With the absence of several familiar faces from our line up, it seems likely that the opponents will surely run the players ragged by the final period. However, the players were well prepared and were all ready to give it their best shot and fight for a good result. It did not take long before the referee signaled the start of the game.

Team CH drew first blood when Chee Keong got clear of the defence to score the first goal. However, Ole Locomotive equalised with a great shot from their number 17, Nikhil, in the next minute. Our defence was caught out several times and Nikhil completed his hat-trick by scoring 2 more goals unassisted. The team was trailing 1-4 at the end of the first period.

After a short tactical brief from the coach, the players went in to the second period determined to shore up the leaky defence. Darius nicked in a goal with an accurate shot off the bottom of the far post with 5 minutes gone. Nikhil was constantly threatening to score and he got one during a lapse in our defence on the blind side. The opponents scored another similar goal 6 minutes later before Ryan pulled one back at the death of the second period.

The team managed to limit the opponents to 2 goals in the second period, keeping us in the game. The players set out for the final period confident of turning the game around so long as they made sure of their marking. The team went close on several occasions but were unable to capitalise. Kin Phang scored the only goal of the period with a superb backhand flick into the top corner, while the defence played tremendously well to hold the opponents goalless in this period.

It was a good performance but we will have to learn our lesson from the match today so as not to commit similar errors in the future games. We have proved that we are more than a match for our opponents now and the season looks set to be an exciting one this year. Let us all look forward to our next game!
