This is the moment the boys have all been waiting for – their first match in the National Inter-School Floorball Championships. After a long pre-season period of training, the team is finally ready to face the competition. Catholic High School travelled to face off against Canberra Secondary School in the group’s opening encounter. Having beaten them a year ago, the boys were quietly confident of their chances. However, complacency was far from their minds as they focused on playing well foremost.

The Canberrans were a resilient team. Even though Darrell opened the scoring with a lucky deflection in the 3rd minutes and Samuel scored with a well taken goal in the 6th minute, they limited our chances and kept the score down.

The second period was more open as the opponents had to try to score to come back from behind. Samuel broke their hearts with another goal after 5 minutes with Dickson adding to the tally a minute later. Joshua scored his first goal of the tournament with a well worked assist from Darrell shortly after. With 2 minutes to go, Ryan took his chance with a superb direct shot from a free hit which went in off the far post. The keeper had no chance at all. Crenshawn ended the rout with a simple shot before the end of the period.

Darrell continued his fine form with another goal in the third period. Derek joined in the fray with a goal as well minutes later. Joshua completed the game with his second goal 6 minutes from time.

It was a good opening match and the coach was satisfied with the clean sheet today. However, the path to qualify for the next round is not an easy one and the players know that they will not be able to afford any slip-ups if they wish to progress. The team will need to remain focus and continue to play even better, and beyond themselves.
