CHS vs HIHS

21 December 2009 2 Comments

The ‘B’ Division were up against Holy Innocents’ High School today. However, for some unknown reason, the players were not able to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the game as evident from the intensity of their warm up. After the drills, the players gathered for their routine match briefing. The main focus for the match was to pass the ball around and support each other in the game. Communication will be the key to making this plan succeed.

The game began with our players in possession and it did not take long for Joshua to open the scoring with a well taken goal. Darrell added to the tally with a smart rebound following a long shot form one of the defenders. They were unable to step up the intensity of their game and the score was to remain at 2-0 at the end of the first period.

5-0 (2-0, 1-0, 2-0)

In the second period, the players were still off their pace and it took much prodding from the coach before the forwards began to support the defenders more. The score at the end of the period was 3-0 in our favour.

In the final period, the opponents stepped up their game and this forced our players to do likewise. Ryan shot was saved by the keeper but unfortunately for him, the ball bounced over him into the goal. The opposing defender then deflected a cross court pass into his own goal, unable to move out of the way to end the game 5-0.

It was a steady game for our defenders, but more was expected of the team in terms of the attacking aspect. The players have to realize that a proper pre-match routine is essential to allow them to get into the game. Otherwise, they will find it difficult to raise their game to the right intensity that they are capable of.
