CHS vs HGS
The boys have been in school since Monday for a camp and the highlight of the second day of the camp was a friendly match against Hillgrove Secondary School. The boys wasted no time in warming up following their early lunch and were looking sharp prior to the game. It will be interesting to see how the C Division fare in their third friendly match this year. Everyone could not wait for the game to start and it did not take long before the whistle blew for the face off.
The ‘C’ Division boys started brightly and Joshua Tan took less than 2 minutes to register the first goal of the match. However, the Hillgrove players soon got into their stride and equalised towards the end of the first period.

The second period started with both sides matching each other in term of possession and skill. Hillgrove took the lead against the tide of play midway through the period, and then again in the 9th minute. Jed should have done better as the ball crept past him into the goal at the near post twice. The performance form the team leaves much to be desired as well.
After a reshuffle in the lines and a harsh lecture by the coach, they took to the third period with greater purpose and determination. Although the period ended goal-less, it was a much improved performance from the team.
The final period was the turning point of the match as Joshua Tan completed his hat-trick with 2 goals in the 3rd and 10th minute. With seconds of the period remaining, Joshua Tan proved his worth once more by scoring the winning goal to beat Hillgrove 4-3.
The ‘C’ Division boys definitely made it tough for themselves, and they would have to tighten up their defence should they wish to do well during the competition.
The ‘B’ Division boys made sure they did not follow the footsteps of their juniors by storming to a 3 goal lead in the first period, with goals from Darrell, Dickson and Dion. They increased their lead further in the next period with Dickson, Jarryl, Isaac and Nicholas Chee chipping in with the goals.

However, they took their foot off the pedal in the third period, with Dickson scoring the solitary goal. This allowed Hillgrove to attempt to come back into the game as they further held us to only 2 goals in the final period. Dion scored near the end of the period and Jarryl finished the game off with a long shot from beyond the halfway line.
It was a good game for the seniors, but as the coach pointed out after the game, they should have put the game beyond doubt in the third period. This mental aspect of their game ought to be improved on if they want to progress far in the competition.
Both teams did well with their wins, and as they gain more experience with each game, it is hoped that they will learn where their weaknesses lie and improve on them.
