CHS vs RVHS
The ‘C’ Division team finally got their taste of competitive floorball today as they faced off against the senior girls from River Valley High School. The opponents may be of the fairer sex but they certainly do not hold back their punches especially when it comes to 50-50 chances.
‘C’ Division Friendly
Catholic High School vs River Valley High School
CHS Indoor Sports Hall
8-3 (4-1, 3-1, 0-0, 1-1)
Straight from the first whistle, players from both sides went in hard to gain possession. Unfortunately, before our players could settle into the game, a River Valley player forced her way down the left side, and with no pressure from our defenders, scored the first goal of the game. The goal took us by surprise, but following some disciplined play from the boys, Nicholas Lim opened the scoring with a well taken shot from beyond the half line in the third minute.
In the 6th minute, Jarryl scored his debut goal following some good dribbling from the right side. This was his first match as he only joined us late last year. Yu Ren scored a brace before the first period ended with the score at 4-1.
The second period began on a more even note for the first ten minutes, as the girls began to impose themselves on the match, with their desire to win back possession and physical play much apparent from the first period. Jarryl settled the nerves by scoring his second goal, followed by Nicholas Koh in the 12th minute with a shot from the right side. River Valley worked out another goal in response, before Wan Terng ended the period with our 7th goal.
The third period was goal-less, with the introduction of a third line on our side so that everyone has a chance to play in the game. They did not disappoint and were unlucky not to get a goal on some occasions. This continued in the last period, until Joshua Tan got his name on the score sheet in the 13th minute. He has missed many chances earlier on and would be relieved to see this one end up in the goal. Almost immediately after, a River Valley player charged down the left side and with no defender to beat, sent a shot into goal which Jed could do nothing about. The match ended with a flattering score of 8-3.
We were guilty of losing the shape of the team towards the end as the play became increasingly scrappy and more physical. It was a good learning opportunity for the boys to learn not to take their feet of the pedal until the final whistle is blown. Nevertheless, credit to the opponents for putting up a fighting display which we would do very well to emulate.
