RI vs CS

21 April 2009 4 Comments

The other semi-final was between Raffles Institution and Coral Secondary School. Both sides were eager to win this encounter but Raffles Institution have the upper hand with a perfect record in their earlier games.

The first period was a tight contest with Raffles having more shots at goal. With two minutes left in the period, Raffles made their breakthrough with a thumping shot that came off the inside of the goal post. The Coral players immediately confronted the referee to rule out the goal as the ball did not cross the goal line to no avail.

Republic Polytechnic
6-0 (1-0, 3-0, 2-0)

With only a goal down, the Coral players were optimistic about their chances. However, their task were made more difficult when Raffles scored two goal in succession following some poor defending by the Coral defenders. The Raffles captain rounded up the second period with a brilliant shot to extend the lead by 4 goals.

Just when the Coral players were making some headway into the Raffles goal area, they were hit by a surprise shot. A back pass was played to the Raffles defender and he tried his luck with a lob which went in over the goalkeeper. As the time continues to run out, it became more and more impossible for Coral to overturn the goal deficit. The final goal came from Raffles with 5 minutes to go, sealing the fate of Coral Secondary School.

There were to be no upsets as Raffles Institution will meet Victoria School in an epic battle for the ‘C’ Division bragging rights on Friday.
