CHS vs GDS
Greendale Secondary School proved to be our nemesis as they once again got a favourable result against us in our third match today. The situation is as such that a win would put us in a comfortable position to qualify for the second round with two games to go, with a potentially difficult game on Wednesday coming up. However, it was not to be as our opponents was psyched up enough to take the game to us instead, helped by numerous defensive mistakes on our part.
The first period began on a slow note, with both sides having their chances with several shots which tested the goalkeepers. It was only at the 13th minute when Darrell finished off a pass from Joshua that we broke the deadlock to take the lead.

4-5 (1-0, 1-1, 2-4)
Samuel doubled our lead in the second period with a powerful shot after a poor clearance from a Greendale defender. We had a couple more chances in the period but failed to capitalize on them. Towards the end of the period, a defensive error saw an unmarked Greendale forward scored their first goal of the game.
We were not playing to our usual standard so far and the coach was left fuming at many of the horrendous plays executed by the team. The third period was a disaster as Greendale scored 4 goals which left us with the difficult task of overcoming a 3-goal deficit. Two minutes into the period, Derek and Ken Loong left their defensive positions only to see the ball being passed to an unmarked Greendale forward. He had all the time in the world to score that goal and he made no mistake from 3 metres. Their next goal was an opportunistic shot from the right side which ended up in the top corner of the goal. Their 5th goal came from a long shot which eluded everybody and Eugene as well.
In the final 4 minutes, the team decided to wake up from their slumber and put in some serious efforts. Samuel got the ball and scored on the turn below the diving body of the goalkeeper to reduce the deficit by one goal. Darrell scored his through pure determination as he fought for the ball and knocked in the resulting loose ball into the goal. However, it was too little too late as even after pulling Eugene out for another forward with 30 seconds left, we could not score that elusive goal.
It was a very poor performance from us today and we did not deserve to take anything away form the game. With the loss, we will have to work even harder for the next two games.
