CHS vs PHS
This friendly match was organised much earlier on but we were only able to meet today. It will be our first friendly in our indoor sports hall. With the ‘B’ Division over for now, the focus will be on the ‘C’ Division team as I begin to make some decisions on team selection. The season is only a month away and we will need all the match practice that we can get. With a mind on this, I am also thinking about the new batch of Secondary 1 students who will be coming through the ranks pretty soon.
The ‘C’ Division team played their match first and Samuel drew first blood against a very inexperienced opponent with a well taken goal a minute from the start. Towards the end of the period, a bad pass from the opponent allowed Joshua to capitalize and score in the ensuing mix up.

3-1 (2-0, 1-0, 1-0)
The second period was a more quiet affair, with Joshua finding his way through the defenders to score the third goal. The line changes were fast and we saw some encouraging plays from the other players in the team as well. In the third period, we continued to shoot but the forwards were guilty of missing several good chances. The opponent broke their drought by scoring when they penetrated our defence in one of their forays forward.
The ‘B’ Division were next to play and were obviously out-classed by their opponents this time round. With several experienced and skillful players, PHS dominated the game proceedings and had the lion’s share of possession. We found it hard to play against them and conceded 5 goals in the first period. After a some tactical changes during the interval, there was a marked improvement in the second period as we held them to two goals. We tried hard to break their defence to no avail in the third period and eventually conceded another 5 goals as the game drew to a close.

0-12 (0-5, 0-2, 0-5)
It was an eye opener for the boys as they played against a team with a different formation and had the experience of learning how to handle them. Although the loss was of no consequence, it was still a valuable lesson.
There will be more friendlies to come and training will intensify for the ‘C’ Division as the season draws nearer. All the best for the Nationals!
