CHS vs AES
The ‘C’ Division team faces off with Assumption English School in yet another friendly, this time in the midst of the common tests. Besides the chance for some match practice, this was an opportunity for the coach to throw some of the new Secondary 1 players into the fray to see if any of them are ready to step into the team for the competition this year. It was heartening to see the cohort turn up in full force in anticipation of what is to come, as well as to see the team in action for the first time.
The team began with the friendly after Darrell was given instructions from the coach, who was rushing back from another assignment. With no tactical brief, the team took matters into their own hands and ended up being more concerned with their individual performances than the efforts of the team as a whole. It was not surprising when the coach arrived to see the 0-1 scoreline in favour of our opponents during the interval.
‘C’ Division Friendly
Catholic High School vs Assumption English School
CHS Indoor Sports Hall
5-1 (0-1, 2-0, 2-0, 1-0)
The second period began and the players continued with their style of play, although Ryan and Darrell managed to get on the score sheet to take the lead in the game. The players were subsequently briefed during the break to carry out certain tactics and strategies and it worked to good effect as we kept the pressure up with shots on goal.
The third period began well, with Joshua Lee scoring from long range in the 4th minute of the period, and Nicholas Chee notching his first goal a minute later. The remainder of the period was an even affair as some of the Secondary 1 players got a chance to play in the game.
With some time left, both teams decided to play a final period. Some changes to the lines were made and a Secondary 1 line was introduced as well. The players responded well to the game instructions given and Joshua Tan even managed to get a shot on target, only to be disappointed to see the ball rebound off the far post. Samuel scored our final goal 2 minutes from time to end the game 5-1 in our favour.
Despite the victory, the team must not to be complacent because there are still a lot of areas to improve on. All these will be addressed in the next training and the final squad will be finalized by then as well.
