The ‘C’ Division team faces off with Assumption English School in yet another friendly, this time in the midst of the common tests. Besides the chance for some match practice, this was an opportunity for the coach to throw some of the new Secondary 1 players into the fray to see if any of them are ready to step into the team for the competition this year. It was heartening to see the cohort turn up in full force in anticipation of what is to come, as well as to see the team in action for the first time.

The Men’s National Floorball team achieves the best ever results in the recent World Floorball Championship 2008 held in Czech Republic! We would like to congratulate the Singapore Men’s Floorball team for making history by beating their European opponents for the first time. After losing to Austria in the opening match of the competition, Singapore went on to defeat Slovenia 6-5 in the second group match. This came as a surprise as Slovenia was one of the group favourites and were expected to beat the Singapore team easily.

This friendly match was organised much earlier on but we were only able to meet today. It will be our first friendly in our indoor sports hall. With the ‘B’ Division over for now, the focus will be on the ‘C’ Division team as I begin to make some decisions on team selection. The season is only a month away and we will need all the match practice that we can get. With a mind on this, I am also thinking about the new batch of Secondary 1 students who will be coming through the ranks pretty soon.

We approach our final match with trepidation, knowing that our opponents today had beaten Si Ling Secondary School and reversed the results of their game against Northlight due to a registration mistake. It was a game which we must win in order to progress to the next round of the Nationals. Even a draw would be disastrous. Besides, even the opposing coach admitted that we deserved to go through. However, war was not fought on paper and there was still a game to be played.

After the narrow win on Monday, we were matched up against Greendale Secondary School. We had watched them play their previous match and were quietly confident of getting a good result, so long as the team do not commit the same defensive mistakes. This game today will prove to be a tight one, where the winner will be the team who manages to hold a tight defence. The lead up to the match was good, with players preparing themselves mentally for the game and looking sharp during the warm up.
