After several intensive training sessions into the new year, there was a significant improvement in this match as the team put in a fantastic performance as compared to the other games. However, a number of players arrived late, and the pre-match warm up was sluggish. Therefore, they were warned that if they were to go into the game maintaining that attitude, they should not be surprised to see a double digit scoreline at the end of the first period.

We had our third training session on the new court this morning and I brought my camera along to capture some shots of the indoor sports hall and the training. The sun had just risen and the shadows outside created some good photo opportunities. It was a really quiet morning with only the Scouts and CMC Camp having their activities before us, but standing on the highest ground in school, everything else seemed too far away to matter. The cool morning breeze also serves to refresh the soul on a Saturday morning.

As we usher in the new year, a whole new batch of Secondary 1 students entered the main gates of Catholic High School. After a week of orientation, it was time for them to make their choices of CCAs today. Floorball had its first open house in Classroom 2-8. A mini-rink was set up to enitice the young boys to try out the game, even if it was just to hit the ball around. Videos were played, although not many of them took notice.

Finally, we broke the first period jinx. The score was only 0-3 going into the second period and we conceded fewer match penalties. Everyone is looking up when passing, thus resulting in more accurate passes. This allowed us to work on the play-ups and create more shooting chances. Ian scored a goal by slotting the ball under the goalkeeper after being put through by Crenshawn. Towards the end of the third period, Darius scored with a slap shot from a free hit in the opponent’s court.

The National Inter-School Floorball briefing and draw was held at Bukit Merah Secondary School. As the convenors for the game, they are in charge of organising the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Division competitions. The briefing mostly dealt with the rules and regulations, of which a copy can be downloaded here for reference, and after the formalities, the draw was conducted.
