CHS vs CS

21 November 2008 3 Comments

The team finally got to pit their skills against some real opponents today, and they were none other than this year’s National Inter-School Floorball ‘B’ Division semi-finalist, Coral Secondary School. I could sense how nervous the boys were about their first competitive game, even though it was only a friendly match, but they were definitely eager to prove themselves. For me, I wanted to see how much the team has learnt after 8 months of training, so as to guage the effectiveness of my training methods.

‘B’ Division Friendly
Catholic High School vs Coral Secondary School
CHS Multi-Purpose Hall
0-8 (0-5, 0-2, 0-1)

The ‘B’ Division match got underway with Coral winning the face-off, and it did not take long for them to register the first goal. CHS was still trying to overcome their inhibitions of playing their first ever game and actually putting what they have learnt into the match itself. The opponents, however, had other ideas as they continue to rack up the goals to lead 0-5 going into the break.

The first period was dismal, with major defensive errors. The man-to-man marking was poor and there was no cover for each other. We were also slow on the turns and the line changes was chaotic. Yet, I was glad because how else can learning take place without actually committing these mistakes? Hopefully, the team will take training more seriously and strive to reach the next level.

After pointing out their errors, CHS went in to the second period with renewed confidence. Afterall, they had undergone training to cope with these situations so there was no reason not to do better. Eventually, the match finished a respectable 0-8.

‘C’ Division
Catholic High School vs Coral Secondary School
CHS Multi-Purpose Hall
1-2 (1-0, 0-0, 0-2)

The ‘C’ Division followed suit despite being under strength because of holiday commitments. They have seen how the senior boys performed and wasted no time in getting it correct right from the first whistle. It was a more balanced match between the two sides and Darrell Er scored the first goal to put us in the lead. The scoreline was to remain deep into the final period, when the opponents scored two quick goals in succession to win the game 1-2.

This game definitely provided us with a good learning experience. There are still so much more to improve, I can only hope for the boys to do their best to learn in every training.
